About
our Guest Nathan Descheemaeker
Mike Costello is a lifelong Californian, with an affinity for big open spaces
that make the Golden State special. Mike is drawn to the high alpine basins,
scrubby sage covered deserts and the salt, surf and sand of our coast. He
believes that our connection to nature goes beyond the need to observe and
preserve. Mike sees human participation essential to ecology: stewardship,
harvesting, balancing and protecting healthy ecosystems are rights and
responsibilities that we must hold onto. At HOWL for Wildlife, Mike contributes
to communications strategy. They believe that Hunting is Human, and that modern
regulated hunting is the most economically and ecologically sustainable tool for
conservation.

"We educate the public, both
non-hunting and hunting, about the cultural, economic, ecological,
conservation, and sustenance sides of hunting. We then give people
the tools to take action on hunting, fishing, and conservation
issues."

-
How does HOWL select which
issues get an action?
-
-
-
HOWL for Wildlife focuses on preserving and expanding
our hunting heritage, opportunities, and access. Actions
from elected or appointed officials and bodies
(legislatures, commissions, councils, etc.) that would
impact these three areas are well within our scope.
When other issues rise to significance that are outside
of this, HOWL reviews how we can be involved and support
the hunting community.
-
Can I submit an issue?
-
-
-
Absolutely! We are, at our core, a grassroots
organization. Issues often hit hardest at the local
level, and all sportsmen need to be aware of what might
impact their traditions and heritage. HOWL works with
local sportsmen and conservation groups to develop
actions that are informed and timely. When submitting an
issue, please include any of these that might be helpful
for context and direction, as well as your own thoughts
about why this matters. You can send these here.
-
