"K-9 Cops Take a Bite Out of Crime!" with Shasta County Sheriff Deputies Jurkiewicz and Holroyd |

Deputy Zach Jurkiewicz started
his career in 2014 as a Public Safety Service Officer at the Shasta County Main
Jail and was promoted to Correctional Deputy in 2017. In 2020, he was sponsored
by the Sheriff’s Office to attend the Butte Police Academy ranking number one
overall in the class, academically, and acquiring the “Top Shot” award. In 2023, Deputy Jurkiewicz became a K9 handler, forming a strong partnership with K9 Kilo. Together, they have seized approximately 60 pounds of various narcotics, an abundance of felony arrest stemming from surrenders to Kilo, and three physical apprehensions. Beyond daily responsibilities, he is actively involved in several specialized units, including the Dive Team, All-Terrain Motorcycle Unit (ATMU), and the Recruitment Team. Recognized for exceptional work, Deputy Jurkiewicz received the Recovered Stolen Vehicle Award in 2022, highlighting investigative and enforcement abilities. Deputy Jurkiewicz has also acquired associate’s degrees in public safety and social science. Committed to public safety and professional growth, Deputy Jurkiewicz continues to excel in various aspects of law enforcement, demonstrating leadership, teamwork, and a passion for serving the community. K-9 Kilo is a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois. He is trained and certified in handler protection, apprehension, and narcotic detection. Kilo can detect heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, and fentanyl. Kilo has located approximately 65 pounds of various narcotics in his two years of service. Kilo has also assisted in dozens of surrenders which have led to felony arrest and three apprehensions of violent suspects. Kilo enjoys swimming in any body of water and going to work. |

Detective Kilee Holroyd has
been a deputy sheriff with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office since
March of 2019 after graduating from the Butte College Law
Enforcement Academy. During her time at the Sheriff’s Office, she
has been assigned to the South County and City of Shasta Lake
substations, was the resident deputy for the Shingletown and
Lakehead communities and was the School Resource Officer at West
Valley High School. In December of 2020, Detective Holroyd was
assigned to the Major Crimes Unit. She also serves as a K9 Handler
since April of 2022 with her partner “Toni”, Recruitment Team
member, an Explorer Advisor, a Child Abduction Response Team (CART)
member, a fire investigator with the Shasta Arson Task Force, and is
the Sheriff’s Office designee for Youth Options Shasta currently
serving as the Board Chair. In 2022, Detective Holroyd earned a
Meritorious Conduct Award from the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office.
In addition, she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice
from California State University, Fullerton, an Advanced Graduate
Certificate in Criminal Justice from Liberty University, and a
Master of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a
concentration in Criminal Justice and Executive Leadership from
Liberty University, K-9 Toni was born on July 17th, 2021, and has been partnered with Detective Holroyd in the Major Crimes Unit since April of 2022. K9 Toni specializes in electronic storage device and gunpowder detection, making her a huge asset for the Sheriff’s Office when investigating high profile cases such as homicide, abuse against children, officer involved shootings, narcotics trafficking, and more. Through these investigations, K9 Toni has been deployed 56 times and assisted 11 outside agencies with her special nose. Beyond her investigative duties, K9 Toni and Detective Holroyd actively engage with the community, totaling approximately 70 presentations at schools and public events across Shasta County, fostering education and building positive relationships between law enforcement and the community, and promoting awareness of the important role K9s play in law enforcement. |
